Installing STAT*WRITER
To install the program from Windows, download the self-extracting archive. Double click on the file icon to begin execution. The program will unpack the archive into a temporary folder, "c:/tmp" and begin the installation process. At the end of the installation process, a DOS window will open and will ask you to press enter to load the second installation disk. The software will be contained in a folder "c:/DIP30". To execute the program, double click on a file icon called DIP30. Press "enter" several times to pass through the logon screen and access the program which contains extensive help files.

DOCUMENTATION FILE FOR STAT*WRITER
OVERVIEW: STAT*WRITER integrates and supports all five major functions of electronic
information processing: records making, document storage, information messaging, document
retrieval and results analysis. It runs on 31,000 lines of code using the language and
structure of the FoxPro relational database developed by Microsoft Corp, Redmond, WA, USA.
The two program discs are executable and do not require a secondary licence from
Microsoft. STAT*WRITER makes electronic records by attaching any kind of freely-typed or
code-generated information to a multi-field demographic header. New program discs carry a
code list or structured vocabulary already tailored to make some medical reports in
English. However, any operator can add their own coded entries in any language that their
machine will handle to suit their own reporting, recording and transcription needs.
STAT*WRITER installs (see directions) in a directory titled DIP30. Its screen prompt
under DOS systems appears as C:\DIP30>. (More details are listed inside the program by
pressing the F3 key and selecting the instruction topic titled BEGIN). The program is
called up by typing DIP30 after its directory prompt and pressing <Enter>. After a
few seconds, an agreement screen should appear. Then, pressing the enter key six times
takes one directly into STAT*WRITER's Main Menu bar. Here, operating instructions and
working tips are brought on-screen by pressing either of the Function Keys F1 or F3.
F1 has general computing explanations relating to any machine's operation such as program
navigation, document editing and cursor/mouse controls. Pressing F3 delivers 21 topics
specific to STAT*WRITER's operation such as the command requirements of creating a record,
printing, messaging and storing that record. For example, entry of the letters USER after
pressing F3 will bring up a screen explaining log-in functions. TRANS lists features of
message transmission such as by computer fax, modem-to-modem techniques and automatic
telephone dialing. BOOT tells of starting the program from
the very beginning. Another file brought on screen by pressing F3 is titled FUNCTION KEYS
DEFINED. The pre-assigned activities for F1 through F5 and then F10 are described.
